You are hesitating over the order. The real question is never the colour of the bag: it is when it leaves, when it arrives, and what happens if it is not right for you. Here are our rules, with no grey areas.
Who is selling you this bag, and from where
La Firkin is a Swiss maison, established in Lausanne, in the canton of Vaud. We say so in the first line because it is verifiable, and because it is what protects you. An address and a company identity are what allow you to enforce your rights if an order goes wrong. Plenty of shops selling bags in translucent material publish neither.
We ship to more than thirty countries. Shipping is free across the European Union, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and Latin America: prices there are shown with all taxes included, and the price you see on the product page is the price you pay. To Norway, Canada, Asia, the Middle East and Oceania, shipping is charged at CHF 16.
Two timescales not to confuse
Most misunderstandings start here. There is dispatch time — preparing the order, checking it, handing it to the carrier — and there is delivery time, which is the journey itself.
| Stage | Timescale |
|---|---|
| Preparation and dispatch | Within 24 working hours |
| Estimated delivery, Europe and the United States | 4 to 9 working days |
| Delivery within Switzerland | 6 to 9 days |
| Shipping cost | Free to the European Union, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and Latin America; CHF 16 to Norway, Canada, Asia, the Middle East and Oceania |
| Returns | 30 days, return postage at your expense |
| Tracking | Provided |
"Working days": what that changes in practice
A working day is a day of work. Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays do not count. An order placed late on a Friday is therefore prepared on the Monday, and the delivery clock starts then. It is also why a long weekend pushes an arrival back by two or three calendar days without anything having gone wrong.
Ordering from the United States or the United Kingdom
If you are reading this from New York or from Manchester, three things are worth stating plainly.
Your parcel is dispatched within 24 working hours. It is prepared and handed to the carrier exactly as it is for a European order. What follows is a longer journey with at least one border on it, which is why transatlantic orders sit at the wider end of the 4-to-9 working day window rather than the narrow end.
Shipping is still free. Distance does not add a surcharge, and it does not add a shipping line at checkout. The figure on the product page is the figure charged, taxes included.
Return postage is still paid by you. This is the line that matters most from outside Europe, and it is the one we are least willing to bury. Sending a parcel back from the United States or the United Kingdom costs more than sending one back from Lyon, and that cost is yours. Take it into account before you order, not after. If you are unsure between two colours or two sizes, write to us first — a question costs nothing, a transatlantic return does not.
Tracking
Tracking is provided with every order. It also tells you when to write to us. As long as the tracking is moving, even slowly, the situation is normal. If it stays frozen for several working days in a row, or if it reports a delivery you have not received, that is the moment to contact us — not before, and certainly not after three weeks of silence.
Why a delivery can slip
An estimate remains an estimate. We control the preparation of your order, not the whole of its journey. Four causes come up regularly, and it is better to name them than to keep quiet about them.
An incomplete address is by far the first. A missing flat number, a missing floor, a name absent from the letterbox: any of these is enough to send a parcel back. Next comes the border crossing. Switzerland is not part of the European Union, and a shipment that crosses that border picks up an extra processing step. That is the technical reason for the 6-to-9-day range for Switzerland, wider than on journeys internal to the Union.
Periods of heavy activity — the end-of-year holidays, large commercial events — lengthen the final link in the chain. Finally, a missed delivery attempt sends the parcel to a collection point, where it waits. In that case the tracking says so, and the parcel is not lost.
If the bag is not right for you
Returns are open for 30 days — the law requires only 14, and we go beyond it on the window. Return postage is at your expense: we say it here just as we say it in our terms and conditions of sale, which set out the window, the procedure and the address. Hiding that line in a footnote does not strike us as elegant.
The only other condition is that the bag comes back unworn, undamaged, in its original condition and packaging. Write to us before you send anything back, so that the parcel arrives at the right place and is identified under your name. Keep the packaging until your decision is made, and keep the proof of postage for your return: that is what counts as evidence.
If the bag arrived damaged, that is not a return, it is a problem at our end: in that case the cost is entirely ours. Photograph the parcel and the product, and write to us — that case falls under the legal guarantee of conformity, which runs for two years.
Frequently asked questions
How long will my order take to arrive?
Dispatch within 24 working hours, then 4 to 9 working days of delivery in Europe and the United States. For Switzerland, allow 6 to 9 working days.
Is shipping really free?
Yes across the European Union, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and Latin America: shipping is free there and prices are displayed with all taxes included. A Jelly Firkin at €53.90 is charged to you at €53.90. To Norway, Canada, Asia, the Middle East and Oceania, shipping is charged at CHF 16.
Can I track my parcel?
Yes, tracking is provided with every order.
Do you ship to the United States and the United Kingdom?
Yes. We ship to more than thirty countries: shipping is free across the European Union, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and Latin America, while to Norway, Canada, Asia, the Middle East and Oceania it is charged at CHF 16. The whole bags collection travels to all of them.
Who pays the return postage?
You do, if you simply change your mind: the cost of sending the item back stays with the customer, as the law provides. We do, however, if the product is faulty or not as described — in that case the return costs you nothing. You have 30 days instead of the statutory 14.
How long is the guarantee?
Two years. Every bag is covered by the legal guarantee of conformity (articles L217-3 and following of the French Consumer Code) as well as the guarantee against hidden defects.
My parcel is past the stated timescale, what should I do?
Check the tracking first: it almost always gives the cause, most often an incomplete address or a wait at a collection point. If the tracking has not moved for several working days, write to us with your order number.
